Shirley Martin is a member of the Writers’ Union of Canada, the Federation of BC Writers, and the Clayoquot Writers Group. A lifelong resident of Ucluelet, she is inspired by her rugged natural surroundings. She is a longtime director of the Ucluelet and Area Historical Society. Her latest book, Calm Harbour, Turbulent Seas – A History of Ucluelet, draws on her deep connections to local history.

Shirley has published five other books, including a picture book for children, a book about the Wild Pacific Trail featuring her nature photography, and a series of chapter books for middle-grade readers. She once saw a magazine ad proclaiming: “Decide now. Is your life going to be poetry or prose?” Her response to this was, “I want it all!” Shirley’s poetry can be found in various anthologies and journals, including Van Isle Poetry Collective, Cirque Literary Journal, Worth More Standing (Caitlin Press, 2022) and Laugh Lines (Repartee Press, 2023).
