Sarah Platenius, is a visual artist and writer based on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Her literary work has appeared in Orion Magazine, North American Review, Terrain and elsewhere.
Her artwork has been published in The Hopper Magazine, Camas Magazine, Scoundrel Times, Sage Magazine and elsewhere. Her visual art has been exhibited at The Old School House Gallery, Tofino Gallery Of Contemporary Art, Federation Gallery, Sooke Fine Arts, and elsewhere. Her mixed media work uses repurposed wood, echoes ecological conversations found in nature and traverses the wild. It is a collection of field notes, tributes, and signposts interpreting weather patterns of heart, politics, spirit, and geography. Paint, media, textures, patterns, and cross hatching are boldly layered into ever-shifting landscapes weaving stories of presence, and process towards abstract, non-subjective neutral tone palettes that suggest a quieting of the years, and a certain timelessness.
