I’ve been sketching and painting ever since I could hold a rattle, I simply love, no... need to create. I sketch almost everyday with my left hand to practice (even though I am right handed). I read that Michelangelo did this as a young artist to develop the left brain/right brain connection for more freedom when creating.
I also love observing and studying other artists. After learning that Monet painted without black, I tried it and I love the results. I create shadows and darker areas by mixing a variety of deeper and colourful hues to achieve warmer shading with more depth. I am now focusing on trees and landscapes, particularly the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. The landscape is battered by constant storms and weather that creates unique shapes and lines.
