I am Pete Ashbee, Cree-Metis
I live in Ucluelet, BC, began carving in 2004 and am self-taught. I believe the spirits of all things, plants, animals, Earth, sea, sky and humans are inter-connected. I try to express this in my carvings. Natural elements make up my carvings. Cedar and alder from the forest, copper from the Earth, fur, hair and feathers from animals and birds, shells and seaweed from the ocean all play parts in my work. As the carving evolves, my deep respect for the intricate nuances, subtle changes and beauty in the wood touches me and guides my carving.
